The air was hot and humid. No cool breeze was blowing, the birds weren't singing. Nothing. It was the middle of June. Alice lay on the silk counterpane and decided to ring the bell for her nurse-maid again, so she could scream at her for being slow. Then she would order a lemonade with three cubes of ice in a cool glass.
A woman came in. She was young, about 25, dressed in a maids uniform. "Why weren't you there when I rang for you?! You're lazy and stupid, we should sack you!" screamed Alice.
"I am very sorry Miss Alice. What did you call for?" answered the Nurse-maid meekly.
"I want a lemonade with three ice cubes and in a tall glass. I want it now!"ordered Alice.
"I will go and get it for you Miss Alice." and so the Nurse-maid hurried away.
A few moments later she re-entered carrying a glass.
"Put it down. Help me dress." said Alice.
